Newport County is pleased to announce the signing of Ciaran Brennan, subject to international clearance and EFL approval.

The former Sheffield Wednesday central defender has put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal with the Exiles, which will see him remain in NP19 until June 2026.

Brennan arrives in South Wales with a wealth of experience, having featured for Notts County and Swindon Town on loan in League Two. The 24-year-old made 21 appearances for the Robins during the 2022-23 season, before joining Hartlepool United on loan last summer in the National League.

Brennan joined The Owls academy back in 2013 and made eleven first-team appearances in blue and white since signing his first professional contract with the club back in May 2018.

Later renewing his contract at the club for a further year at the end of 2019 season and again in 2020, on September 15, 2020, he would make his first team debut at Hillsborough, starting their game against Rochdale in the second round of the EFL Cup.

Brennan also comes with international pedigree, having represented Republic of Ireland at both Under-18 and Under-19 level.

After signing the deal, Brennan said: “I’m buzzing to get the deal over the line. It’s been going on for a while now, so I’m delighted to get it done.

“I’ve got a relatively good idea of what the league brings. I know I’m more than comfortable at this level and I want to show the fans that I can be one of the best players here.

“I’m just ready to kick-on now.”

Welcome to the Exiles, Ciaran!
