New signing Ciaran Brennan says he is “ready to shine” for Newport County and show the fans he can be “one of the best players at the club."

Brennan, 24, completed a two-year deal at Rodney Parade today after making the switch from Sheffield Wednesday.

And the former Republic of Ireland Under-19 international can’t wait to get started after being enthused by the plans of new owner Huw Jenkins.

“I had a couple of offers elsewhere,’’ admitted Brennan.

“But speaking to Huw and listening to what he wants to do with the club going forward; the philosophy he wants to put in place; and what he thinks the club can be, was a massive attraction to me. It will help me massively.

“This club is definitely going in the right direction.’’

Brennan became the club’s second new signing of the summer after Anthony Glennon arrived yesterday from Grimsby Town.

And the defender is looking forward to meeting his new teammates when they return for pre-season next week.

“I think there will be a good blend of youth and experience in the squad, which is what you need,’’ he added.

“I’ve got a relatively good idea of what this league is about and I’m ready to kick on. I want to play as many games as I can and win as many games as I can.

“I’m more than comfortable at this level and ready to shine and show the fans I can be one of the best players here.

“That’s my mentality.’’
