Newport County are on the road once again this Saturday as they make the long trip north to take on Derek Adams’s Morecambe (3pm).
Nelson Jardim’s team will be looking to build on last weekend’s 3-1 victory over Accrington and make it three consecutive wins when they take on Morecambe.
Pre-Match Thoughts
Nelson Jardim believes Saturday’s opponents should not be overlooked as he feels the Shrimps have been unlucky in their opening games and pointed out that they have managed to limit good sides to just one goal.
“I’ve seen all three of Morecambe’s games and I think they’ve been a little bit unlucky,” Said Jardim
“They lost 1-0 in all of their league games, they’ve also played two away games which is always hard.
“We expect it to be tough, they will be looking to get something from the game and it is our job to make sure we continue to be competitive and we hope to come out on top.”
Opposition Form
Morecambe have had a very difficult start to the campaign. After a summer of huge upheaval, including announcing 15 signings in one day, the club have failed to win any of their three opening matches.
So far, the Shrimps have lost all three of their games 1-0, losing away to Walsall on the opening day, at home to Gillingham the following week, and away to Doncaster last Saturday. They were also on the end of a 3-0 defeat to League One Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup.

Last Time Out
Highlights | Newport County AFC 5 Morecambe 3
Our last match with Morecambe was one of the most memorable encounters of last season. We welcomed The Shrimps to Rodney Parade on what was a cold Tuesday night in March. However, there was nothing cold about the action on the pitch,
The game got off to an exciting start when Aaron Wildig turned home a cross 12 minutes in. We would double our lead just six minutes later when Adam Lewis fired home a spectacular volley.
Morecambe would get back into the game in the 31st minute when Gwion Edwards went on a mazy solo run and slotted past Nick Townsend.
Aaron Wildig would complete his brace early in the second half, heading home at the near post to make it 3-1. A goal-mouth scramble from a corner would then lead to Chris Stokes pulling one back for Morecambe in the 70th minute.
A brilliant run from Jordy Hiwula would force a great save out of Nick Townsend in the 74th minute. Unfortunately, he could do nothing to stop Gwion Edwards heading into the resulting empty net to finish his brace.
The deadlock would not last very long, with Harry Charlsey smashing home from inside the six-yard box just four minutes later to put us 4-3 up. The final goal of the game would then come in stoppage time, with Seb Palmer-Houlden slotting home to make it 5-3.
Head to Head
Since returning to the Football League in 2013, we have played Morecambe 20 times. We have won seven of these encounters, with Morecambe squeaking ahead with nine victories. Four of our games have ended in a draw.
