Anthony Glennon | It’s something I wanted to be part of

Glennon

Newport County’s first new signing of the season, Anthony Glennon, is looking forward to the backing of the Amber Army after receiving “plenty of stick” in an away shirt.

The former Grimsby Town defender signed a two-year contract with the club today and can’t wait to run out, this time in amber and black, at Rodney Parade.

“I’ve really enjoyed playing at Rodney Parade in the past,’’ he admitted.

“The pitch is always great, and the atmosphere is class. “I’ve had a bit of stick off the Newport fans in the past, so it will be nice to have them onside for a change!’’

The 24-year-old left-back also revealed that Exiles’ midfielder Bryn Morris, a former teammate at Grimsby, also played a major part in persuading him to make the move to Wales.

“It’s a move I’ve been interested in for a while after speaking to Huw (Jenkins) while on holiday a few weeks ago,’’ he added.

“Bryn (Morris) also played a big part in it because they both couldn’t speak highly enough of the club and the direction it’s going in. It’s something I wanted to be part of.

"I’m looking forward to getting started and be up there at the end of the season.

“After speaking to the chairman that’s the direction everyone wants to go in and be promoted at the end of the season. That’s the ambition.’’
