Recap all the action from Spytty Park as the Exiles hosted League One outfit Coventry City...
Striker Sean Rigg had a lively start to the game and was set free by a long-ball forward and managed to find space to direct a dangerous cross along the six-yard area that was intercepted by the Coventry City.
Rigg was involved again shortly after when a throw into the area was knocked into this path and he was able to fire a powerful volley towards goal that was deflected behind for a corner.
County enjoyed the fair share of attacking chances and on the stroke of twenty-minutes Sean Rigg glanced a header into the path of Trialist B, who finished calmly into the net, only to be called back for offside.
On thirty-minutes, Joe Day was called into action after a stray pass was pounced on by George Thomas, who forced Joe into the making a reaction save down to his left.
Just minutes before the break Coventry took the lead when George Thomas broke in behind the County defence and slotted a neat finish past Joe Day.
HALFTIME: Newport County AFC 0 - 1 Coventry City
The second half started tentatively as both sides tried to gain the majority of possession.
Coventry were able to double their as the game neared the hour mark when Joe Day pushed a close-range shot on the crossbar, only for the ball to be scrambled across the face of goal and tapped in by Jordan Willis for the simplest of finishes.
A succession of changes meant the final thirty minutes didn't muster any real chances for both sets of teams. Just minutes before the final whistle Coventry had the opportunity to add a third goal, which was prevented by a superb goalline clearance by Ben Jones, who was able to slide and deflected the ball onto the post.
