MATCH REPORT: WESTON-SUPER-MARE

County score eight at Weston-Super-Mare....

The game was just two minutes old when a deep cross by Mark Randall was headed down at the far-post by Jon Parkin and into the path of Sean Rigg, who was able to volley the ball into the net to give the Exiles the lead.

For a pre-season fixture, the game started at a very fast pace, with both sides looking to attack at every possible opportunity. Winger Jennison Myrie-Williams had a powerful shot held by the Weston-Super-Mare 'keeper after the wideman had cut inside to exploit gaps in the home side's defence.

Just after the ten-minute mark Sean Rigg was bundled down inside the area and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Mark Randall stepped up and confidently dispatched the spot-kick into the top right corner.

The striking duo of Sean Rigg and Jon Parkin looked a strong pairing, with Rigg keen to find space with clever positional play.

On the stroke of thirty-minutes, Mark Randall threaded a delightful pass through to Sean Rigg, who was able to round the 'keeper before being called back for offside.

County then scored three rapid-fire goals in the closing stages of the first-half. Winger Jennison Myrie-Williams scored the first, after receiving a perfectly directed pass by Joss Labadie, the winger was able to cut inside and fire a driven effort that crept inside the near post.

County's fourth was added just moments later when a cross into the Weston area eventually fell to Jon Parkin, who turned neatly and slotted a side-footed effort into the bottom corner.

Just after play restarted, midfielder Mark Randall spotted the 'keeper off his line and attempted an audacious long-range effort from inside his own half that dropped into the net, in what was a standout wonder goal.

HALF TIME: Weston-Super-Mare 0 - 5 Newport County AFC

County didn't have to wait long in the second half for their sixth goal of the evening, as just six minutes after the restart Joss Labadie headed home from a corner to extend the Exiles' lead further.

The hosts pulled a goal back when Jake Mawford managed to cut inside from the right-wing and place a well-struck shot that crept past the diving Joe Day.

Manager Warren Feeney introduced Ben Tozer from the bench for the final thirty minutes, in what was his first game in County colours for the defensive midfielder.

Halfway through the second-half, Tom Owen-Evans thought he had added the seventh goal for County when he tapped home from a rebound, but the linesman on the far side deemed the midfielder had strayed offside.

Half-time substitute Darren Jones went down injured on the touchline in front of the dugouts and had to be replaced by Kieran Parselle, who would have thought his evening was over when he was originally substituted at half-time.

Inside the final fifteen minutes, neither side managed any real threats on goal, as a flurry of summer rain and late changes interrupted the flow of the game, but County did manage to add a further two goals when Trialist B (who may or not be Marlon Jackson) tucked home a side-footed effort from the edge of the area and he completed the goal scoring when added County's eighth goal, tucking home from a well-placed through ball by Tom Owen-Evans.
