Newport County is pleased to announce the signing of talented goalkeeper, Lewis Webb.

Hailing from Newport, the 23-year-old began his footballing journey through the youth ranks at Cardiff City and Newport County, before moving to Merthyr Town in the summer of 2018.

His impressive performances at Penydarren Park earned him a move to Swansea City on scholarship terms, where he quickly caught the eye at U18 level, securing his first professional contract in the summer of 2019.

Webb continued to progress, earning a place in Swansea’s Under-23 side and, by the end of the 2019-20 season, breaking into the first team squad. His performances earned him a long-term contract with the Swans in December 2020, keeping him at the club until 2024, with the option of an additional year.

In January 2022, Webb joined Shelbourne in the League of Ireland Premier Division, where he made seven starts during the 2021-22 season under the guidance of former Premier League winger Damien Duff.

On the international stage, Webb represented Wales at U18 level, making six appearances, before moving up to the U21s, where he has made two starts, including a standout performance in a 2-0 win over Gibraltar in a Euro U21 Championship qualifier.

Last season, he made 35 appearances in the Cymru Premier, playing a pivotal role in Caernarfon Town's qualification for the European Conference League qualifiers.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be back at the club,” said Webb after putting pen-to-paper.

“Having spent time here in the academy at under-15 and under-16 level, it feels fantastic to return to a place I know so well.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity ahead and can’t wait to push on and continue developing my career with Newport County.”

Webb will now join County to provide competition and depth in goal as the Exiles look to push forward in the second half of the season.
