Newport County is pleased to announce the signing of forward Hamzad Kargbo, subject to EFL approval.
Standing at an impressive 6ft 4in, the 22-year-old becomes the Exiles’ 13th summer signing ahead of the 2024-25 Sky Bet League Two season.
Kargbo, formerly of Queens Park Rangers, has been on trial with Nelson Jardim’s side throughout pre-season. He has featured in the majority of the Exiles' fixtures including matches against Pontypridd United, Kidderminster Harriers, Bristol Rovers, and Hereford FC, earning a professional deal with the club.
Kargbo began his career at QPR at the age of 12, joining from the Mass Elite Academy. He has been a regular for Rangers’ Under-23s over the last two seasons after signing a professional contract at Loftus Road.
During his time with the R’s, Kargbo also had loan spells with Vanarama National League sides Southend United and Oxford City.
Speaking after putting pen to paper, Kargbo said: “I’m very excited. As soon as I first came here I could feel it in my heart that it was a place I wanted to be and here I am.
“Obviously it’s never easy coming in as a trialist, but I could see from my first training session that everyone is like a family here which made it easier for me because I was welcomed straight away.
“It has given me the chance to focus on working hard throughout pre-season to show Nelson what I can bring to the squad.”
Welcome to Newport County, Hamzad!
