New signing Hamzad Kargbo is eager to kick off his journey with Newport County and aims to score as many goals as possible.
The 22-year-old forward has become the Exiles' 13th summer signing, joining after his contract with Championship side Queens Park Rangers expired.
Kargbo, known for his physical prowess, will offer Nelson Jardim's side a new dimension in the final third. His ability to match the physicality of opposing defenders will be invaluable over the long season ahead.
And the former QPR player is determined to seize every opportunity in League Two this season, showcasing his talent and making a significant impact in NP19.
“I’m very excited. As soon as I first came here I could feel it in my heart that it was a place I wanted to be at and here I am,” said Kargbo.
“Obviously it’s never easy coming in as a trialist, but I could see in my first training session that everyone is like family here which made it easier for me because I was welcomed straight away.
“It has given me the chance to focus on working hard throughout pre-season to show Nelson what I can bring to the squad.”
Kargbo joins the Exiles just two days before their Sky Bet League opener against Cheltenham Town on Saturday.
And ahead of the new season, the striker believes he can bring a lot in the attacking third this season.
“As an attacker, I would pride myself as a goalscorer. Unfortunately, I’ve not got the chance to play much in the last few seasons because of injury, but now I’m fit and ready to go,” he added.
“I don’t like to set a specific target as a forward player because then you’re limiting yourself. I just like to go into a season with the ambitions of getting as many goals as possible.
“I find it depends on how I’m feeling so I try to keep myself in a positive mindset all season no matter what because at the end of the day confidence is key.
“Once I start getting more games under my belt to achieve the fitness levels I need to be at after a few set backs in recent seasons, then the fans will see the best of me.”
Throughout pre-season Kargo has featured for the Exiles in a number of friendlies and has had a feel of the support from the Amber Army.
And Kargbo expressed his excitement ahead of witnessing the roar of the Amber Army at Rodney Parade this season.
“The fans have been amazing and have really supported us in pre-season, so I can only imagine the atmosphere they’ll create at Rodney Parade,” he continued.
“Confidence is key and I can already see that the fans’ support is going to help me maintain that positive mindset throughout the season, as well as the rest of the team.”
