Head Coach Nelson Jardim wants his side to start on the front foot and show aggression when they take on Chesterfield tomorrow night.
The Exiles host the Spireites in NP19, aiming to build on their strong home performances, having secured 12 of their 15 points at Rodney Parade this season.
However, they will face a formidable challenge against Chesterfield, who are unbeaten in their last five matches and have scored ten goals during that stretch, including an impressive 3-0 victory against Doncaster Rovers.
But after two consecutive away matches, Jardim is thrilled to return to the support of the Amber Army on Friday night.
“I know we will have the twelfth man on Friday. Our supporters are so important to us and when we play away we really miss them,” said the Portuguese.
“Tomorrow is a big game and we’ve had a lot of big games at home this season. In every big game the fans have helped to push the team.
“Football is so complex and you cannot only speak about one factor that can help you play well or not. Every team has a home factor and there’s always elements when you play away because the fans are definitely a huge factor.
“We always go about the game in a positive way and try to attack our opposition early. Everyone is ready to fight for our objectives and be on the front foot against Chesterfield.
“Chesterfield is a strong club pushing for promotion and they’ve started very well. They have a good squad, well drilled team and in the last five games they haven't been beaten.
“They are a consistent and competitive team they always score but they always concede so I expect a game with a lot of goals.
“I think all of the coaches will agree that we can not only see improvements in individual players but in the team as well. I’ve been saying it’s just about what we can control, the work we do in day-to-day training and what we do with the players.
“If we see little wins, little improvements then obviously when you look at the bigger picture, you’d hope they would lead to even more consistent results."
Nick Townsend and Matt Baker are set to re-join the Exiles squad ahead of the game after their international duties.
When asked about their availability for Friday night's game, Jardim added: “Nick Townsend is expected to come back today and will be assessed ahead of the game and the same with Matt Baker.
“We have almost a full squad and we will need everyone in our team available with all our upcoming fixtures. This league is really tough and we need everyone available.”
