Nelson Jardim | We want to win tomorrow

Nelson Jardim

Head coach Nelson Jardim has called on Newport County to build on the feel good factor as they prepare to face Fleetwood Town on Saturday afternoon.

The Exiles host the Cod Army at Rodney Parade, aiming to reclaim their winning form on home turf.

This match comes on the back of Jardim's men securing a 2-0 away victory at Gillingham on Tuesday night.

The County boss believes that performance showcased a different facet of their game and is eager for his players to capitalise on the confidence and cohesion gained from that win.

“We go into tomorrow’s game on the back of a big away win and we’ll aim to win at home again tomorrow,” said the Portuguese.

“Tuesday was a good performance all-round from ourselves and will only breed us confidence going forward.

“We want to win tomorrow to make up for the last home defeat. The fans have been great to us, it’s always disappointing for them when we don’t win but I think they can see that we are always trying.

“I can’t promise that we will win every game, but one thing I can promise is that everyone at this football club is doing their best everyday to make sure we get them wins.

“I work 24/7 for this club and so does everyone else around me, and I will keep doing that everyday to keep us improving. Yes, some of the days don’t go the way we want but we always keep believing.

“We’ll try and put in a good performance tomorrow, matched by hopefully a good result.”

Fleetwood Town head to Rodney Parade on the back of two consecutive league defeats in League Two.

However, under the guidance of Charlie Adam, they enjoyed a strong start to the season, losing just one of their first nine league matches.

Notably, the Fishermen have a solid away record, having secured 10 of their 16 points outside Highbury Stadium. A standout moment this season was their remarkable 6-2 victory over Walsall, marking the highest goal tally by a single team in a league match so far.

Looking ahead, Jardim was keen to emphasise the importance of being fully prepared for the challenge they face tomorrow.

“We know Fleetwood were relegated last season but we know they will be aiming to get straight back into League One,” added the Exiles boss.

“They’ve got a strong squad, a well-known manager and we know it’s going to be difficult.

“They’ve picked up a lot of points on the road this season which shows again it will be difficult.

“We have to make it as difficult for them as possible and hopefully we can have a good result for us.

"It’s down to us to make we sure we’ve got a clear idea of how they want to play and how we can stop them.”
