Nelson Jardim | We know Harrogate will be a tough game

Nelson Jardim

Head coach Nelson Jardim is anticipating another challenging League Two encounter when his Newport County side take on Harrogate Town tomorrow afternoon.

The Exiles will make their second trip to Yorkshire in just five days, aiming to secure their first away win since August.

Jardim’s men face a Sulphurites side currently in solid form, having earned seven points from their last five matches, including impressive victories over Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers.

And the Portuguese is prepared for another tough test in the ever competitive division.

“After a busy week of training the boys are looking very well ahead of the weekend, “began Jardim.

“I think we were all frustrated not to take anything away from Monday, but we’re in good spirits to go again tomorrow.

“The keys messages all week to the players has been to just stay positive and be ready for the next game.

“We know Harrogate will be a tough game and a proper League Two fixture. They’re a well drilled side who have picked up some good home wins.

“Going into the game, we have the same of process - looking to improve our away form.

“We know Saturday is not going to be easy, and it’s going to be another tough game, but I’m confident we can improve on Monday's performance.

“As a team, we just have to keep going and keep improving each week and hopefully results will come on the road.”

Jardim confirmed this morning that shot-stopper Nick Townsend will miss this weekend’s game against the Sulphurites after being called up to the Antigua and Barbuda senior squad.

The 29-year-old, who has been in fine form for the Exiles this season, will play in the two Concacaf Nations League qualifiers against the Dominican Republic on Saturday and Tuesday.

“We have got Jacob ready to go and he has shown his qualities,” confirmed Jardim.

“The positive of this group is that I have two, sometimes three, players who can play in positions.

“We want everyone to challenge for the position and when you have high competition for places they can only benefit and improve, knowing that the other player is ready to go and waiting.

“Nick has been brilliant for us and I have already praised him a couple of times. He is fantastic, not only on the pitch but off it.

“He is a leader and we are lucky to have him with us, but we have to deal with him being out and move forward.”
