Head coach Nelson Jardim expects a tough test against Swindon Town tomorrow afternoon, but is confident his Newport County side have the balance of quality and resilience to return to winnings ways.
The Exiles travel to the Robins having won three of their opening five league games of the campaign, and return to League Two action following a 4-1 defeat to Port Vale last weekend.
Swindon, meanwhile, have endured a tough start to the new league season, picking up just three draws and two defeats.
But Jardim knows all too well the challenge that lies ahead for his side, but feels County’s recent run of performances shows they are capable of asking questions of any opponent.
“We know it’s an important game and we know it’s going to be a different kind of test,” said the Portuguese.
"Yes, they haven’t made the best start to the season but we know the quality Swindon possess.
“They are a big club in this division and we know that the game will be difficult. They have some top players and I expect a tough game.
“I also expect us as a team to be ready and to bounce back. Last week was a real bad day at the office, and that was clear. The game didn’t start well for us losing Macca early on and it just went from bad to worse.
“We have to pick ourselves up and I’m quite positive about this game. We’ve had a positive start to the season and we need to be ready to get back to winning ways.
“We know when we are not at our best things can change very quickly so we must make sure we are ready from minute one to 90.”
Ahead of the trip the County Ground, the Exiles will be without the suspended Ciaran Brennan and Kyle Jameson following their red cards against Port Vale, and the injured Joe Thomas, James Clarke and Shane McLoughlin.
But Jardim admits his side still have the strength and depth to compete in the division.
“It’s never a good time for injuries and the sendings off did not help, but I do feel I have options, players who are willing to help and play different positions and we will find a solution,” added the Exiles boss.
“Everything has to be thought through. We are still trying to improve football wise, trying to make sure the players are still playing in the way we want to play, but we have to assess everything and these injuries and sendings off have not come at the best moment.
“We will find a way to get through this period still knowing our direction, we know what we are trying to do and it is just a little setback not having our full squad.”
