Nelson Jardim | Everything is coming together now

Nelson Jardim

Head coach Nelson Jardim has highlighted the threat that Morecambe can bring despite their poor start to the 2024-25 season in preparation for their trip to Mazuma Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Exiles will look to make it three consecutive league wins for the first time since March 2022 following their recent 3-1 victories over Doncaster Rovers and Accrington Stanley.

The Portuguese believes Saturday’s opponents should not be overlooked as he feels the Shrimps have been unlucky in their opening games and pointed out that they have managed to limit good sides to just one goal.

“I’ve seen all three of Morecambe’s games and I think they’ve been a little bit unlucky,” Said Jardim

“They lost 1-0 in all of their league games, they’ve also played two away games which is always hard.

“We expect it to be tough, they will be looking to get something from the game and it is our job to make sure we continue to be competitive and we hope to come out on top.”

Jardim also reflected on the Exiles’ defeat to Morecambe in the 2021 play-off final.  He also explained that his side is not worried about past events and that they’re focused on the future.

“I’ve heard many stories about the play-off final in 2021, I think Aaron Wildig was part of their team.

“Every game is different, that game has come and gone and tomorrow we want to write our own story.

“We had the chance to take something away from the Cheltenham game but that game obviously didn’t go our way.

“We came away from Cheltenham with a good feeling so tomorrow is all about trying to improve what we did at Cheltenham and I’m confident we will do that.”

Finally, Jardim spoke of his delight to get two more new faces through the door before the deadline and what he thinks Noah Mawene and Jamie Miley can bring to his squad.

“I’m happy with the signings of Noah (Mawene) and Jamie (Miley).

“We’re still waiting to see if they will be available for tomorrow but I hope they will, I’m still waiting for the green light.

“They both come from high divisions and they both have good education in football, two very bright players and we hope we can develop them not only as footballers but as human beings as well.

“These signings are exactly what we’re looking for; they’re going to bring more energy, more depth, even more quality to the squad.

“Everything is coming together now and hopefully can only get better but we know there will always be ups and downs in a process like this.”
