Kyle Hudlin | I want to continue showing my ability

Kyle Hudlin is hoping to continue his good form in front of goal for Newport County after netting a crucial goal in Tuesday's victory over Gillingham.

The Huddersfield Town loanee delivered a clinical first-half finish, marking his third goal in just five appearances and securing a morale-boosting win for County in Kent.

Since joining on deadline day in August, Hudlin has been on a roll, adding to his earlier goals against Salford and Bradford City earlier his month.

And he hopes he can continue to build his confidence and help his team-mates by finding the net moving forward.

“I’m really happy with the way I’m playing at the moment,” said Hudlin.

“The main thing for me is just keeping my head down, continuing to work hard each day and then the goals will keep on coming.

“I wouldn’t say the goal on Tuesday was a sign of confidence, it was more of a sign of my ability as a player. I want to show people that I’m more than just scoring headed goals, I want to show I have more than that to my game.

“I was really eager to score with my feet on Tuesday and make sure everyone knows that I can do the other side of the game - I'm not just a big man - that I’m also tidy with my feet and link people into play.

“In the coming fixtures, I want to continue showing my ability and hopefully keep helping the team to wins.

“I just want to have more opportunities to show that and hopefully I can do it again on Saturday."

The Exiles return to league action tomorrow afternoon as they host Fleetwood Town at Rodney Parade.

The Fishermen boast a solid away record, having picked up 10 of their 16 points on the road this season.

On the test to tomorrow, Hudlin added: “We owe the fans a performance at home tomorrow. The Chesterfield game was a disappointing night for us so we want to respond.

“What I liked about Tuesday was the manner of the win and performance. We defended well, showed really good fight and character, and dug deep for the three points.

“The league is so close and it’s all about momentum. There is no limit to what he can achieve this season, we just take it game-by-game and hope to kick on.”
