Courtney Baker-Richardson believes Newport County showed both sides of the game to secure their 3-1 win over Accrington Stanley.
The Exiles made it back-to-back wins on their return to Rodney Parade for the first time since March on Saturday, thanks to an own goal from Seb Quirk, and two strikes from Baker-Richardson and Aaron Wildig.
And the forward was left delighted after County made it six points from a possible nine in the opening three games of the League Two season.
“I’m over the moon with the performance,” said the forward.
“There’s a characteristic that we’re trying to build here at the club and the foundation first and foremost is to play.
“First half was difficult with the wind today, but we came back out at 1-1 and it was almost a replication of last weeks performance.
“We knew we had more in the tank than them and I thought we showcased that well in the second half.
“It was a tough game and we had to dig in at some stages, but I thought we cracked everything in the second half to earn a good win.
“Some times in games you have weather the storm and that’s what we did in the first half.
“We may go behind in games but we know we’ve got the team spirit to fight back.”
Baker-Richardson netted his second goal of the campaign from the spot on Saturday afternoon which saw the Exiles regain the lead in the contest.
And the forward has been pleased with his goalscoring form following his return to NP19, and believes Rodney Parade can be fortress for County this season.
“It’s a great for me personally to be back amongst goals in my second spell, but it’s all about winning, “added Baker-Richardson.
“If my goals need to take a step back to allow other people to score then that’s fine. It’s all about the team winning at the end of the day and that’s the mentality we’ve all got.
“Three points today is good for us and it’s all about climbing up that league table.
“For me personally, I want to get promoted this season. I missed out at Crewe last year so i had that sniff and I’m hungry because of how close I was last season.
“We’ve got to make Rodney Parade a fortress this season because everyone has got to come here and play us.
“If we can keep playing like we can at home and carry that momentum on the road, who knows where we can finish this season.”
