County in the Community | October Half-Term Round-Up

half term

During October half-term, County in the Community hosted a range of exciting programmes and events, bringing local young people together for a week filled with sport, activity, and engagement. From football camps and community initiatives to fan engagement days, we’re proud to share the highlights of our half-term efforts to support and connect with our community. Here’s a round-up of everything we delivered during the break.

FOOTBALL CAMPS

Over the October half term break, we hosted our Newport County AFC Soccer Schools at John Frost and Croesyceiliog Secondary Schools. During the three days, girls and boys enjoyed fun football activities and matches, with girls from the age of 6 to 16 having the option to play in our girls only groups. The mixed group includes boys and girls from the age of 5 to 11. In this group, the children can show off their skills in dribbling, passing and shooting challenges, followed by competitive matches against each other to put their skills to the test.

Our next Newport County AFC Soccer Schools will be taking place in February half term. So make sure to keep your eyes peeled on our social media pages for dates, times and venues in the new year!

COMMUNITY

This October half term we delivered 4 days of Fit & Fed through GAVO, The Feathers, and What Impact. Across the half term we engaged 88 young people in fun activities including football, handball, dodgeball and cricket.

In partnership with The Feathers our Barrackswood group had their Fit & Fed delivered as part of our ‘Fan Engagement day’ at Rodney Parade. The other three days of Fit & Fed were delivered in Ringland and Alway.

In addition to the Fit & Fed, our Premier League Kicks sessions continued in Ringland, Alway and Barrackswood. A group of regular participants were lucky enough to be selected to attend a regional competition at Bristol City (Image attached) and had a fantastic evening of football playing against foundations from Swansea City, Cardiff City, Exeter City, Bristol Rovers, Plymouth Argyle, Bristol City and Swindon Town.

FAN ENGAGEMENT

This half term we held a Fan Engagement Day at Rodney Parade. Year 5 and 6 pupils from local primary schools were invited to the event to meet our staff and join in with activities that we offer at our sessions. The day saw over 80 children in attendance in and around the marquee. We finished the day off with a buffet and a chat between visitors and staff.
