Corey Evans is eager to continue making important contributions for Newport County Under-18s after scoring a brace in their impressive 5-1 FAW Youth Cup victory over AFC Llwydcoed.
The young Exiles advanced to the second round of the competition thanks to goals from the winger, along with contributions from Declan Rowsell (2) and a late effort from Jac Norris.
Evans made an immediate impact by netting twice within the first 15 minutes of the game, establishing an early lead for his team in the tie.
And the 17-year-old wants his side to continue building momentum, translating their cup success into their league performances.
"I am happy with the game, I thought it was a good opportunity to express myself and try new things," Evans said post-match.
"AFC Llwydcoed showed heart, they competed well and were physical which made them a tough outfit, but I think we did really well to beat them confidently in the end.
"Myself and the lads are buzzing, cup football is all about getting into the next round and winning as many games as possible.
"It doesn't matter how you win, every game is a must win game and we are buzzing for the next round now.
"As an individual I want to keep my confidence high and keep expressing myself. That is reflected in the team, everyone is positive and confident.
"We now want to take this form onto our coming games in the league."
County Under-18s face off against Oxford United in the EFL Youth Alliance on Saturday in what will prove to be a tight contest.
And Evans is looking forward to another tough challenge as his side return to league action.
"We are expecting a tough game," he added. "We know they are a good outfit and we have had a few good battles with them over the last few seasons.
"We really want to compete and hopefully come away with a good result."
