Cameron Evans | The philosophy at the club really suits me

Cameron Evans

Cameron Evans says is raring to go and ready to make the most of his opportunity with Newport County after joining the club on a two-year deal.

The 23-year-old links up with the Exiles following a short trial period, having come through the ranks at Swansea City.

The versatile defender offers head coach Nelson Jardim a variety of positional options having played in a wide range of positions in his senior career to date.

And the former Wales under-19 international can’t wait to hit the ground running in NP19.

“I’m buzzing to get the deal over the line,” began Evans.

“I’ve been on trial over the last couple of weeks and got given a great opportunity, so I’m just really happy that I impressed enough to earn a contract.

“It’s always tough as a trialist in pre-season because you always want to try and impress the manager and the coaches, but also the players too.

“The philosophy at the club really suits me as a player and I have really enjoyed working with the staff and players so far.

“Nelson has brilliant with me since I’ve come to the club this summer. He’s got a very good camaraderie going on with the boys and that is something he is really big on within the club.

“It’s a great group to be a part of and I can’t wait to get going.”

Evans has featured in all of County’s pre-season friendlies so far having arrived from National League South side Taunton Town this summer.

Evans began his career at Swansea City after joining the club at under-nine level. He served as the under-18s' vice-captain during the 2018-19 season, while he wore the armband in the under-19s' FAW Youth Cup triumph over The New Saints.

And the defender believes his past experience will help him settle into life in League Two this season.

“Having come through the ranks at Swansea, I’ve always been brought up with the ball at my feet and playing the Swansea way,” added the 23-year-old.

“As a defender, I like to step in the with ball and link up with players higher up the pitch.

“Having had a stint in non-league now as well, I’ve learnt the aggressive side of the game which is vitally important, particularly in League Two.

“To describe myself as a player overall, I’m just a hardworking individual who will do anything to help the team be successful."

Across his career to date, Evans has turned out at Rodney Parade on a number of occasions when progressing through Cymru's intermediate age grades.

And he is relishing the opportunity of playing out in front of the Amber Army at a packed out Rodney Parade this season.

“I’m really looking forward to playing out in front of the fans at Rodney Parade,” continued Evans.

“I’ve played there before with Wales under-19s and I’ve watched many games there over the years.

“The atmosphere is special and I’m looking forward to being a part of that on a weekly basis.

“This club has a lot of potential and I’m looking forward to being a part of it.”
