Cameron Antwi | I can’t wait to see the fans again tomorrow

Cameron Antwi

Cameron Antwi believes the Amber Army will have a vital part to play when Newport County host Accrington Stanley on Saturday afternoon.

The Exiles face the Reds at Rodney Parade in their second consecutive home game in League Two after defeating Doncaster Rovers 3-1 last time out.

And, following the incredible home support from 4,268 members of the Amber Army last weekend, the former Fulham academy graduate insists the home supporters will have a big role to play once again when his side face the Reds.

“I heard a lot of good things about the atmosphere but last Saturday was something I couldn't even imagine,” said Antwi.

“The atmosphere from minute one to minute 90 was brilliant and it was great to get the three points for them in the end.

“A good atmosphere certainly helps me because I’m the type of player that feeds off the energy. After we went 1-0 down on Saturday the fans never stopped, so we knew that we had to win it for them.

“Honestly, without the fans, I don’t think we would have won that game on Saturday. They were the 12th man and gave us unbelievable support.

“I can’t wait to see the fans again tomorrow, and hopefully they can be the 12th man once again.”

The 22-year-old, who joined from Cardiff City this summer, enjoyed a stellar performance against Rovers last time out contributing the Bobby Kamwa’s 47th minute equalising strike.

Since his switch to NP19, Antwi admits the intensity of League Two initially caught him off guard but now he feels as though he has adapted his game to be able to deal with the new pressures of the division.

“I can remember being taken back by the intensity of League Two in my first game. It was a fast-paced game and you really don’t have much time on the ball but I’m getting used to it now,” he continued.

“It was no different against Doncaster on Saturday, but I do feel like we were the better side on the day.

“We’ve been working hard in training over the last few weeks trying to get our patterns and shape right, and it’s paid off because I believe we can beat anyone on our day.

“I’ve been here for a few weeks now and I’m really enjoying my football here, and I’m just loving being a part of the team.

“It was a very easy decision for me to come here because I’m at the age now where I should be playing more first-team football and I feel like I’m good enough to do so."
