Aaron Wildig insists Newport County have plenty more work and improvement to come as they look to return to winning ways against Swindon Town on Saturday.
The Exiles head to the County Ground looking to bounce back after a suffering a disappointing home defeat to Port Vale last weekend - their first in three matches.
County have made a promising start to life under new head coach, Nelson Jardim, winning three of their opening five leagues games.
And Wildig, who was appointed team captain in the summer, says his side are keen to get back to winning ways in SN1, but are well aware of the challenge that lies ahead of them.
“It's going to be another tough game tomorrow, we know Swindon will be raring to go against us,” said the midfielder.
“Playing against teams who haven’t had a win yet can be the most dangerous as they are trying to get off the marker themselves.
“We are well aware that they are going to want a fast from the offset, but it’s about us tomorrow not them. We need to control the pressure, control our emotions and hopefully their fans can feel the pressure and we can settle in the game.
“This league as everyone knows is relentless and unpredictable. Anyone can be beat anyone on their day, so we must make sure we’re best prepared as possible for each test."
He added: "Last week was a difficult afternoon. I think pretty much everything that could go wrong, did go wrong and it was one of those days.
“But looking at the bigger picture, we have started the season positivley and there’s a lot more to come from us.
“The whole squad is continuing to drive each other. From the experienced players down to the younger players, everyone is on the same page and fighting on all fronts to help the team. That creates competition for places which is always healthy for any squad.
“There been a lot of positivity around the camp over the last few weeks. Nine points from five games, and with a new head coach and group of players, I think you’ve got to be positive.
“It’s about moving forward as a group now and trying to write a lot of wrongs. We need people to stay positive and keep getting behind us as a team because there’s going to be a lot of bumps in the road.”
Wildig has made an impressive start to his third consecutive season in Newport, netting three goals in as many games in League Two.
Last season, the 32-year-old made 41 appearances for the Exiles and is now closing in on the 100 club having featured 80 times in all competitions.
An important performer in Amber and Black, his experience and nous have proved invaluable once again in the early stages of this season, and the midfielder admits he's enjoyed the new project building under Jardim and the extra responsibility of team captaincy.
“I’ve really enjoyed the new style of play and the project so far under Nelson,” added the former Cardiff City man.
“I’ve had a few different roles this season. For the first game of the season against Cheltenham I played in more of an outside eight and 10 position before playing slightly deeper in the past few matches.
“For me as a player, I like breaking up play, being neat and tidy in possession, and just trying to lead the team as much as possible both on and off the pitch.
“I’ve scored a few goals this season too whilst advancing from midfield which is a strength of mine, but it’s key that we score from all over the pitch.
“Good teams have goals from a variety of individuals and for us to be a top, top team we’ve got to start adding goals from everywhere on the field.
“I’ve really enjoyed the season so far and hopefully that continues.”
