Exiles on the Road | Stockport County Away Day Guide

Newport County are back on the road this weekend as we make the long journey to Greater Manchester to take on Stockport County. Here’s everything you need to know about planning your trip to Edgeley Park.

Where is Edgeley Park?

Edgeley Park is located at:

16 Hardcastle Road,

Edgeley,

Stockport

SK3 9DD

Where will Newport fans be during the game?

Newport County supporters will be situated in the Together Stand.

How do I get to Edgeley Park?

The following are the easiest ways to get to Stockport this Saturday:

Car

Edgeley Park is around 175 miles from Rodney Parade and should take fans between 3-3 and a half hours. Fans can expect heavy traffic on the M6 on Saturday, with Manchester United taking on Everton in the early kick-off. This should have settled down a little by the time County fans are getting up there.

Train

Stockport is one of the away days where there is a direct train from Newport station. The train takes just under three hours, so we would recommend making sure you are on there early. Edgeley Park is around a 15-minute walk from the train station, so to ensure you get there with time to spare, we suggest getting the 10:07 to arrive at 13:01. This would give you plenty of time to relax pre-match before heading to the stadium. This would also give you time to spare if there were any delays.

Alternatively, there is a train at 11:06, which arrives in Stockport at 14:01. This would still give you an hour to get to the stadium before kick-off.

Coach

If you don’t want to worry about catching trains or driving through traffic, then you can always relax and let someone else do it for you by taking one of the coaches organised by the NCAFC Supporter’s Club.

Can I park near the stadium?

Parking near the stadium is reserved for home fans. However, there are several Pay and Display car parks located in Stockport near the stadium. The following options are available:

  • Caroline Street (SK3 9DJ)
  • Armoury Street (SK3 9DR)
  • James Street East / West (SK3 9AT)
  • York Street (SK3 9AD)
  • Bulkeley Street (SK3 9AJ)

There is also parking available at Stockport train station, which is an NCP car park. This offers a discounted rate on match days.

How far is the train station to Stockport County?

Getting to Edgeley Park from Stockport train station is simple. The stadium is around a 15-20 minute walk, depending on your pace. When you leave the station, walk west on Station Road before turning right towards Railway Road. You will then need to turn right onto Wellington Road before turning right again on Greek Street. When you come to the roundabout, take the second exit onto Merican Way and then turn left onto Worrall Street before one final turn right into Hardcastle Road, where you should see the stadium.

Where to eat and drink locally

There are several pubs in the vicinity of the stadium, but many of these are home fans only. Stockport County’s official away fan guide recommends The Armoury. This can be found at:

This is a 5-minute walk from the stadium.

Last time out

Our last encounter with Stockport County took place at the end of November and saw us end Stockport’s 12-game winning run in style. The visitors’ attempt at getting in the record books was dealt a blow before half-time when Bryn Morris fired home from a clever free-kick routine. Shane McLoughlin then delivered the killer strike with a delightful half-volley from just inside the box. The Hatters would scramble home a late consolation thanks to Issac Olaofe, but it was too little too late, with Stockport having to settle for the joint-best record with fellow Hatters, Luton Town.
