After back-to-back home games, County hit the road again this weekend, making the 180+ mile journey north to Salford City FC.
With rail strikes taking place over the weekend, there could be some logistical issues to sort out for some Exiles. Don’t worry, though; we’ve got you covered in our Salford City away day guide.
Where is The Peninsula Stadium?
The Peninsula Stadium,
Moor Ln,
Salford
M7 3PZ
Where will Newport fans be during the game?
Away supporters at the Peninsula Stadium are housed in the East Stand terrace, with a couple of blocks of seating available in the North Stand. Away supporters will need to use Turnstile A to gain access to the ground.
How do I get to the Peninsula Stadium?
The Peninsula Stadium is a long day away from Rodney Parade. We would recommend getting out early to make sure you arrive for the game in decent time before kick-off. The following are the best ways to make it to the stadium:
Car
The Peninsula Stadium is 184 miles from Rodney Parade. Fans must hit the road early for the game, with the M6 likely to build with traffic. Manchester United are also playing at 15:00, so fans should expect a lot of traffic once they reach the M6 near Manchester.
The rail strikes will also contribute to higher traffic volumes, so be sure to plan your journey accordingly.
Train
Trains for Saturday’s encounter with Salford could be impacted by the planned rail strikes.
As such, if you want to travel by Salford to train, you'd need to ensure you had checked if your jorney will be affected by said rail strikes and ensure appropraite alterarions had been considered before leaving Newport. It is important to note that at the time of writing, Transport For Wales will not be affected and trains should be running between Newport and Manchester.
If you are in Manchester, then there are a number of public transport options available. You can take the Metrolink trams from the city, with the nearest stations between the Crumpsall, Heaton Park, or Prestwich stops.
There are also several public transport options. Supporters can take the X43 Witchway Bus runs from Chorlton Street, or they can take services 97 or 98 from Manchester Victoria towards Shudehill Interchange and Bury.
The rail strikes are likely to have a big impact on public transport in Manchester this weekend, as will the game taking place at Old Trafford, so be sure to plan accordingly and give yourself plenty of time if you are taking these routes.
A taxi from Manchester City centre costs roughly between £15-£20, though this price might spike with increased traffic.
Coach
The easiest and least stressful way to get to Salford City on Saturday is by taking the supporters coach. You can find out more information about that at NCAFC Supporter’s Club.
Can I park near the stadium?
There is on-site parking available at Salford City on matchdays. There is also a residents-only matchday parking scheme in place, so we recommend keeping your eyes peeled for signage and being respectful if you are looking for nearby parking.
There are several parking options nearby if you are looking. There is a park-and-ride scheme situated around 1.5km from the stadium.
How far is the train station to Salford City?
As mentioned, there is a train strike on Saturday that will impact trains across the county. As such, please see the information above regarding how to reach the ground using other forms of public transport.
Where to eat and drink locally
Salford have a bar in their stadium, but, unfortunately, this is only available for home fans. Away fans looking for drinks will find them served in the away end, and there is a unit just behind the stand.
As far as pubs go, you will need to walk quite a distance from the ground, and while some of them will allow away fans, they may not allow colours, so it is good to check ahead of time. The Fairways Lodge in Prestwich is a popular destination and is around a ten-minute walk from the stadium.
In terms of food, there are some little spots near the ground to grab some food, and there are food options available inside the stadium. If you are in Manchester for the day or weekend, then the city centre itself has plenty of excellent options, especially for an evening meal to celebrate a County win.
Last time out
Our last trip to the Peninsula Stadium ended in a 3-1 defeat. We took the lead on the half-hour mark thanks to Harry Charsley’s first goal for the club.
Unfortunately, goals from Callum Hendy and Conor McAleny on either side of the half-time whistle put us on the back foot. The hosts rounded out their performance with a stoppage-time header from Matt Smith.
