Bryn Morris opened his account last weekend with a cool first-time finish past Cairns in the Salford net. It wasn’t enough though, Salford secured all three points despite the Exiles’ best efforts.
Morris was pleased to have got his first goal for the club although was disheartened that Newport took nothing from the game: “It’s nice to get off the mark,” he stated.
“It’s great to have opened my goalscoring account for the club but to be honest I’d rather we took the three points than me score.”
The Salford clash was far from ideal for the Exiles, who were aiming to make a return to winning ways, but the midfielder confirmed that there was positives to take from the performance: “The game didn’t end up how we wanted it too, but there is definitely positives to take into Tuesday night's clash (Colchester United).
On another day, we take our chances and we come away with three points but that’s football, it’s onto Tuesday night where we will can look to put things right.”
Newport Manager, Graham Coughlan echoed Morris’s sentiment in his post-match interview: “We were excellent,” confirmed Coughlan.
“We were good on the ball, we created lots of chances but we made one or two basic errors that in the end probably cost us.”
Although Morris was plenty reflective of Saturday’s performance, he also looked ahead to where Newport could make improvement: “I think we just need that one win, and we’ll push on from there with the momentum we build.
“October is an ideal month to get that momentum going with the relentless Saturday, Tuesday schedule throughout the month," he added.
Morris will naturally be looking to add to his goal tally this evening and further throughout the season: “There is more to come for sure, Tuesday is our chance to sort it,” he explained.
