Nick Townsend agrees to extend his stay at Newport County AFC until the end of the 2024/25 Season, subject to EFL approval.
Solihull born, Nick Townsend joined the Exiles in the summer of 2018. Over these 5 years he has amassed over 100 appearances for County in all competitions with 29 clean sheets within that impressive stat. During that time Nick has received international call-ups on two separate occasions to represent his country Antigua & Barbuda, of which he has kept three clean sheets in six appearances.
Nick is a fantastic goalkeeper that has pulled off some world-class saves over his time as an Exile. His incredibly fast reactions and ability to read play are a beneficial asset to County’s identity.
Newport County AFC manager Graham Coughlan said, “Nick was desperately seeking to be the club’s number one throughout last season, we gave him that opportunity and he’s been fantastic”. He went on to say “We gave him an early offer and in turn got an early reply. It’s always great to have an international footballer amongst the squad while playing for us which cannot be overlooked. I am looking forward to working with him further next season”.
Media manager Louis Cartwright-Walls spoke to Nick Townsend on the signing of his new deal, and this is what he said “Everyone seems to be pushing in the right direction, which is what I want to be part of. I’ve been here 5 seasons now and I’ve seen it all, and it just does feel like a family environment that I feel a part of”. He carried on to say, “It’s that family feel, even down to the fans, you can have a chat to them, a proper conversation…I’ve loved every moment of it”.
