Newport County are beaten in behind-closed-doors fixture at the Robins’ High Performance Centre.
Newport came fast out of the blocks from kick off, having a chance straight away with some attractive football, but it wasn’t long before the quality of championship outfit Bristol City shone through.
It took Bristol City only eight minutes to break the deadlock as Day made the initial stop very well, but Bell slotted home the rebound with ease.
The Robins didn’t let up, as a loose pass at the back was intercepted by Wells who went on to double the host’s lead in the 14th minute.
Newport’s newest addition Ryan Delaney’s first involvement was crucial, after he made an important block on the line to deny City a third. The ball then broke for County who looked to counter attack through other new signing Palmer-Houlden who’s strike fell into the hands of Wiles-Richards.
City would go onto to score a further two goals through Wells and Vyner which concluded the half.
Half Time.
County boss switched up his side at the halfway mark with five substitutions.
Bristol City started the half just as strong as the previous, scoring their fifth in the 49th minute via a deflected shot from Alex Scott.
Despite County forming some good build-up play City looked to add to their already five goal lead. Scott embarked on a troubling run into the County box and lined up the shot before being brought down in area, winning his side a penalty. The spot kick was converted by Wells who claimed his hat-trick for the fixture.
Scott netted again in the 62nd minute meaning City were now seven up.
Newport didn’t give up and no heads dropped as the Exiles looked to grab themselves a goal in the 72nd minute through defender Kyle Jameson who flicked Bowen’s cross just wide of the target.
Just prior to the referee blowing the full-time whistle, Scott found the back of the net once more.
