Offrande Zanzala's first Newport goal completed a second-half turnaround from County for a 2-1 win at Crewe Alexandra.
Lachlan Brook's goal just before the quarter-hour mark put the hosts ahead but Cameron Norman levelled matters just after the hour.
Zanzala, on as a second half sub, then turned the game on its head five minutes from time for a dramatic late winner at the Mornflake Stadium.
County started the game on the front foot and we almost had the lead on only three minutes when James Waite struck a half-volley narrowly wide of the left post after a neat lay-off from forward Omar Bogle.
And a minute later, Scot Bennett wasn't too far away either but his strike from the edge of the box was deflected wide for a corner.
Crewe did take the lead with their first shot of the contest though when Brentford loanee Brook struck in off the right post from distance to make it 1-0 to the Alex.
County keeper Joe Day was later needed to make an impressive save with his feet to deny Chelsea Academy graduate Charlie Colkett from a tight angle on the left of the box before Cam Norman hit the bar.
Norman found space outside the right of the area, brought the ball forward and saw his powerful attempt cannon back off the crossbar and away.
Newport had the first major chance of note in the second half as Mickey Demetriou rose highest to meet Aaron Lewis' corner from the right, but the header was straight at Crewe keeper Arthur Okonkwo and saved.
And with 62 minutes played, we were level thanks to Norman's deflected effort that nestled in for 1-1.
A set-piece routine eventually ended with the ball at Norman's feet whose shot took a deflection in the area and went into the bottom left corner.
Norman's memorable night continued soon after as, after hitting the bar in the first half, he did it again in the second with a rasping strike that hit the top of the goal as County pushed for a second.
Zanzala popped up in the six-yard box though to finish from close range after Priestley Farquharson's header across goal following Norman's delivery from the right.
