After making his professional debut at the weekend, Will Evans says he is "loving every minute" at Newport County.
Evans arrived at the club this summer from Bala Town of the Cymru Premier and played the full 90 minutes in his professional debut at the weekend.
Speaking to the local media at full-time, Evans revealed that he initially found the transition to full-time, professional football difficult but that the squad's welcome has helped him settle at Rodney Parade.
"It’s taken its toll on me mentally and physically – you’ve got to be on it each day. The first week or so I thought I did struggle but once you start to fit in a little bit more it’s like going back to school, really.
"The gaffer and the staff are all so welcoming and the players have been as good as gold with me, I’m loving every minute and I hope it continues."
Evans, who was mostly played as a forward while at Bala, has been used as a left wing-back by County boss James Rowberry both over the summer and on Saturday afternoon. It's a position he's getting used to, but relishing.
“I’ve had conversations at length with the gaffer.
"When I was at Bala I was more of a left winger so it was a role that kind of suited me going forward but I’ve just got to adapt it to improve my defensive work.
"Over the years I’ve played in different positions and had to do that defensive work, it’s a different role for me but I’m quite a fit lad, I can get up and down.
“I’ve played left-back in my youth days at Shrewsbury so it’s something I know."
