Kevin Ellison signs

Newport County AFC are delighted to announce the signing of striker Kevin Ellison on a one-year deal.

Ellison will join up with the Exiles until the end of the 2020/21 season following a successful trial period with the club, where he played a part in County’s pre-season preparations ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The experienced striker has featured across the four tiers of English football - Premier League, Championship, Sky Bet League One and Sky Bet League Two – over the course of his career, making 658 league appearances.

The 41-year-old left Morecambe in the summer following a 10-season spell with the Sky Bet League Two club where he netted 88 goals.

Ellison has enjoyed an impressive record against the Exiles since making his first appearance against the club in the 2012/13 campaign having been involved in 12 goals in 11 games.

He will link up with Michael Flynn’s men ahead of the upcoming campaign and will also carry out coaching duties with the Exiles’ strikers during his time at Rodney Parade.

After finalising the deal, Ellison said: “I’m looking forward to my chapter here now. I’ve always seemed to do well against the club over the last few years, but I’m a Newport player now so it’s all about me giving everything for this club. I’m delighted that it’s finally all been sorted.

“The gaffer rung me to come down and something just felt right about it when I got here. There’s a tingle and a buzz in me about playing here. We had a conversation about what I could bring to the table and it was about just getting the deal done after that discussion.

“The fans know what I can do and hopefully I can continue to do that this season too.”

Manager Michael Flynn: “Kevin is someone that I’ve got a great relationship with and I know how vital his experience can be for this club. He’s a player who continues to work hard and he’s always managed to influence games when he’s played against us.

“I sat down to speak with him about what I feel he could offer us this season, so I’m really pleased that he’s here now.”
