Twenty-eight-year-old striker Jamille Matt has signed a two-year deal with the Exiles and will join on the 1st July 2018 subject to international clearance.
Matt brings with him a wealth of experience at both League Two and League One level and his past clubs include Blackpool, Fleetwood, Grimsby and Stevenage.
Matt will be well-known to County fans after his hattrick saw the Exiles suffer defeat to Kidderminster in the Blue Square Premier League in 2012. The 6'1" striker is a handful for any opposition as he combines strength with an eye for goals as well as being good in the air.
On completing the deal, Jamille Matt said: “Newport County AFC have always been a team that stood out to me and it was great to know they were interested in me. The manager made it clear how much he wanted me at the Club and that’s always a nice feeling.
"Having played against County a number of times, it’s always stood out as the type of Club I’d like to play at, a Club that suits me as a player and as a person. I’ve seen how much the Club and team have improved under the Manager and I’m looking forward to help push the team onwards and upwards."
Manager Michael Flynn added: “Jamille will be vital for us. He’s come from a higher league and is always a handful to play against. I’m looking forward to working with him as he’s shown a desire to play for this Football Club from the moment we spoke.”
Jamille is the second player to put pen to paper this week, following the signing of Fraser Franks on Monday. There are more players expected in before the weekend, so keep checking our website for updates.
