It’s fixture release day and this season’s fixture list has thrown up some interesting ties and some “ones to watch”. Below are some of the key dates for your diary.
Remember, all matches are subject to change.
First Matches
4th August – Opening Day vs Mansfield (A)
Newport County AFC’s first match of 2018/19 will be a trip to Mansfield. The One Call Stadium hasn’t been the happiest of hunting grounds in the past for the Exiles but will the opening day buzz spur County on to victory?
11th August – First Home Match vs Crewe Alexandra (H)
You may remember that on the 12 August 2017, County’s home match vs Crewe Alexandra was reversed whilst Rodney Parade and the WRU installed a new DESSO pitch. There will be no such problems this year and County will welcome The Railway Men to Rodney Parade in their first home match of the 2018/19 campaign.
10th November – Emirates FA Cup First Round
Last Season’s Emirates FA Cup First Round saw us take on League One Walsall at home. No one could have imagined that that was the beginning of a journey that would take us all the way to Wembley. Who will we face in this Season’s FA Cup and how will the story go? We’ll just have to wait and find out.
FESTIVE FIXTURES
22rd December – vs Lincoln City (A)
Don your Santa Hat, your Christmas Jumper and probably your raincoat (it is Britain after all), we will be travelling to Lincoln City, home of the Imps, for the first of our Festive Fixtures.
26th December – vs Forest Green Rovers (H)
There’s nothing better than heading out to watch the County on Boxing Day. We will be welcoming local rivals Forest Green Rovers to Rodney Parade on the 26th December. Last season, County scored 7 goals against FGR over the course of two matches (and conceded 3) so it should be an entertaining affair if nothing else!
29th December – vs Crawley Town (H)
It’s a busy festive period this season, with the Exiles playing four matches in nine days. Our Saturday match on the 29th December will see us Welcome Crawley Town to Newport. Defender Mickey Demetriou’s eyes might light up at the prospect of playing this team – he’s scored the winner in each of the last three meetings between the sides.
New Year’s Day – vs Stevenage (A)
We will bring in 2019 with a five-hour round trip to Stevenage. The trip to the Lamex Stadium might well be worth the effort though as last Season’s opening match between the two teams saw the Exiles fight back from 3-1 down to snatch an injury time equaliser.
Final Matches
27th April – Home vs Lincoln City
Our final game home game of the 2018/19 Season will come against The Imps as we look to have Rodney Parade rocking!
4th May – Away vs Morecambe
The Exiles travelled to Carlisle United for the final away match of both the 2016/17 and 2017/18 Seasons. In 2018/19, it will be a journey to the marginally closer Morecambe.
