After performing brilliantly in the academy last season and impressing in recent pre-season friendlies, 16-year old centre back Jay Foulston has been given a squad number and is set to train with the Newport County AFC first team.
Jay played a key part in an impressive year for both the NCAFC Academy’s U18s and U16s teams and after putting in some very mature and accomplished performances in the first team’s pre-season friendlies, manager Michael Flynn has invited the teenager to train with the first team on a permanent basis.
Speaking at this morning's Open Training Session, Jay described getting his squad number as "a great feeling."
"It's a great opportunity and I've loved every minute of it so far. [Training with the first team is] good for me and it's a great experience. I'm just looking to the future now, I'm delighted to get my squad number and thrilled with the opportunity the gaffer's given me. The aim is always to play as a pro and if I can do it here that would be an amazing feeling."
The Exiles travel to Northampton tomorrow.
