Forest Green Rovers U18’s are managed by Chris Barker, an ex-professional footballer who has played for sides including Cardiff, QPR and Stoke. Barker was appointed as U18 boss after Rovers gained promotion to League Two; which coincides with the U18 side being entered into the EFL Youth Alliance League for the first time in their history.
His side have had a tough start to life in the EFL Youth Alliance league, picking up a single point against Bristol Rovers in a 2-2 draw, from their first two fixtures.
The academy took part in the Newport County AFC team photoshoot on Thursday ahead of the upcoming game against Forest Green, where Byron Anthony’s side will look to pick up their first win of the season.
Byron’s team are looking to retain their Merit League 1 title and according to U18 player Modou Touray the side want to achieve even more this season.
Speaking during the Newport County AFC kit launch last month, Touray said “This year we are looking to win both leagues and the FAW Cup. We believe we can do it and our pre-season has so far been shaped around getting us prepared for the new season.”
The academy will be given a media overhaul soon, with match reports from the youngsters’ games being featured in the match programme. if you can’t attend the game against Forest Green Rovers, pick up a copy of the programme from Newport’s first home game at Rodney Parade this season against Chesterfield next Saturday!
The U18 side face Forest Green Rovers at home on Saturday August 19th.
