We conclude our review of the 2015/16 season, with a look back at the month of May.
There was just one game left for Newport County in the 2015/16 season, a trip to London to meet A.F.C Wimbledon.
Saturday 7th May 2016 – A.F.C Wimbledon (A) – Lost 1-0 – 22nd position – 43 points
It was another penalty that defeated Newport County after Toyosi Olusanya scored with ten minutes of the game to go after he was fouled by Ben Davies. Lenell John-Lewis had County’s best effort of the game when he was superbly denied by James Shea whilst at the other end Adebayo Akinfenwa struck the post. After the final day played itself out A.F.C Wimbledon learnt that they would face Accrington Stanley in the playoff semi-finals who they have since beaten 3-2 on aggregate to set up a final at Wembley with Plymouth Argyle on Monday.
Round Up
It was always going to be a difficult season for Newport County and the goal was to stay in the Football League, which Warren Feeney and his team managed to achieve.
