County sign Scot Bennett

The defender joins County on a three-month loan deal...

Scot joins The Exiles from fellow Sky Bet League 2 rivals Notts County, and will be eligible for Saturday’s game, subject to international clearance.

Scot, made the switch to Notts County in the summer, and has played three times this season for the Magpies before linking up with the County squad today for training.

The twenty-four year-old began his football career with Exeter City, progressing through their youth ranks and making his senior debut in March 2011.

Scot went on to make over a hundred and thirty appearances for Exeter, with Paul Tisdale selecting him as captain for the 2014/15 season.

On joining County, Scot said, “I heard about the interest on Tuesday morning, with Guy Branston telling me that there was a possibility of coming to Newport.”

“I have played against John when he was manager at Plymouth and today is the first time I have had a chance to meet him and talk with him. It’s a new relationship for me, but hopefully it is one that will work.”

“League Two is a very tight knit group, one minute you can be loosing five games and the next thing you be picking up five wins on the bounce and be right back in contention”.

“I can’t wait to get involved and hopefully I will be able to play a part on Saturday and the team can pick up the three points”.

Manager John Sheridan added, “Scot knows this League. I have always liked him as a player at Exeter and for some reason or other he wasn’t getting the game time at Notts County”

“He brings the experience of knowing this division and he can play in a variety of positions, so I am really pleased to have him and I think he will be a really good edition.”

2016.ndThe loan deal will run until our home match against Hartlepool United on January 2

During his time with the Club Scot won't be eligible to play against his parent club, but will be able able to appear in this seasons FA Cup.

Accompanying the news of Scot’s signing, the Club can today announce that Josh Laurent has returned to Brentford.

We would like to thank Josh for his efforts during his time at the Club and wish him all the best for the future.
