HALL OF FAME: Walden and Lowndes

After a week of voting by fans we are delighted to announce that the last two inductee’s to the Newport County AFC Hall of Fame 2015 are Richard Walden (Posthumous) and Steve Lowndes.

Both players are thought very highly of by the club and fans alike and it is our honour to recognise both for their great efforts for the club.

Richard was part of football history when he joined us at the first ever Football Tribunal in 1978. He had played 404 League games for Aldershot and 100 for Sheffield Wednesday over 14 years before his four seasons with us. In 193 appearances for us between the historic 78/79 and 81/82 seasons, it cannot be reasonably said that he had a single poor performance, such was his ultra consistency. Richard sadly passed away in 2009, but earlier in the year, Aldershot arranged a Dinner to recognise him and such was his link to us, set aside a table for a few of his County friends, a very small number compared to all who hold him with the greatest esteem.

Steve Lowndes has over 350 appearances for Newport County and Newport AFC and has been involved in promotions and cup wins during his time with the club.

Millwall signed Steve from Newport County for £55,000 in August 1983 and he was sold to Barnsley in 1986 for £40,000. Steve was always known for his creativity in the Newport side and he is a firm fans favourite.

Steve had ten caps for Wales and currently works for the Cirencester Academy. Steve is a UEFA A licence coach, a qualified Physiotherapists as well as holding a degree and a post graduate teaching qualification.
