County physio Adam Roche gives an update on the long term injury to Andrew Hughes.
Hughes suffered an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament during County's 2-0 win over Stevenage at the start of December, and he's since gone under an operation to repair the injury.County physio, Adam Roche has given the Official Newport County an update as to Andrew's progress: "Andrew is ten weeks post operation now, he's had an ACL reconstruction, he suffered a common, but really serious footballing injury, but nowadays it's not a career threatening injury as it was 10 years ago.
"Andrew is doing really well, his knee is looking brilliant, he's got quite a lot of bulk around by his quads and his muscle size is increasing quite well. He's been going to St Georges Park and they've been invaluable, he's been working with Steve Kemp who's an England physio, so he's getting the very best care he can.
"We're trying to build his strength back up, we're giving him little goals each week, it's a very slow recovery, it could take anywhere from 6-12 months, but we don't want to focus on the amount of time, we just want to focus on the weekly goals.
"He's a good character, he's mentally strong and he knows what he's got to do to get fit again, he's very determined to do it so I'm pleased with him at the moment, I couldn't be happier."
