Looking at...Plymouth Argyle

Chris Gadsby looks at Plymouth Argyle in the next instalment of his looking at series.

Full Name: Plymouth Argyle Football Club

Nickname: The Pilgrims

Founded: 1886

Ground: Home Park (Capacity 17,150)

Record against County: Played 4, Won 1, Drawn 2, Lost 1, Goals For 2, Goals Against 3

Last Season: 7th – It was a good season for Plymouth last year which ended in heartbreak just a game short of a Wembley playoff final when they lost 5-3 to Wycombe Wanderers on aggregate in the semi-finals. In the regular season they went unbeaten in October to help consolidate their playoff place which they held with the odd exceptions for the majority of the season. They were a strong side at both ends of the field last year, finishing with a goal difference of 18 and they will be hoping that they can call upon this again next season.

Key Player: Reuben Reid – Plymouth’s top goal scorer from the last two seasons in a row, scoring 20 last year, is hoping to be fit for the start of the season after undergoing foot surgery and missing pre-season.

Fixtures: August 29th (A) December 28th (H)

Prediction: Plymouth are a very strong side with Reid in front of goal and manager Derek Adams also wants to loan in players from Premier League clubs. This has the potential to make Argyle a very strong side next season and a playoff place should be the lowest of their expectations.
