Looking at...Exeter City

Chris Gadsby takes a look at our League Two opponents for the 2015/16 season......

Full Name:Exeter City Football Club

Nickname: The Grecians

Founded: 1901

Ground: St James’ Park, Exeter

Record against County: Played 4, Won 1, Drawn 2, Lost 1, Goals For 5, Goals Against 5

Last Season: 10th

Key Player: Tom Nichols – he scored 15 goals last season for the Grecians including one from the penalty spot against Newport last November, in a game which County came from two goals down at half time to rescue a point. He spent his youth career at Exeter before breaking into the first team and he will be looking for another significant season upfront when the campaign restarts in August.

Fixtures: 3rd October (A) 20th February (H)

Prediction:Now in their 4thseason in League 2 they will be looking to build upon their previous successes over the last ten years. After gaining back to back promotions from the conference to League 1 they were on the verge of a league 1 playoff spot in 2011 before a bad season in 2012 saw them fall back to the fourth tier. They were one of the challengers to Newport for that final playoff spot last season that proved so elusive but with two tenth place finishes in the three years that they have been in the division, I believe Exeter will be in the top half the table again and more than likely they will be in the top ten pushing for a playoff spot once again.
