Nathan Wood is a Welsh attacking midfielder currently playing for Newport County in EFL League Two. Born on 23 April 1997, Wood rejoined Newport County in June 2023, having previously been part of the club’s academy system before leaving in 2015. His career took him through the ranks of Undy Athletic and Penybont, where he gained recognition for his performances in the Cymru Premier.
After signing his first professional contract with Newport, Wood made his senior debut for the club on 12 August 2023, coming on as a substitute in a dominant 4-0 win against Doncaster Rovers. He quickly made an impact, scoring his first goal for Newport on 10 October 2023 during a 2-0 EFL Trophy victory over Cheltenham Town.
In February 2024, Wood moved on loan to Cork City in the League of Ireland First Division for the remainder of the season, gaining valuable experience abroad before returning to Wales. Known for his technical skills and attacking creativity, Wood has also represented Wales at the under-18 level, showcasing his talent on the international stage.
For the 2024-25 season, Wood returns to Penybont on a season-long loan from Newport County, aiming to continue his development and make an impact back in the Cymru Premier. At 27 years old, Wood brings both experience and flair to the midfield, making him a key asset to any side he plays for.
