Oliver Greaves is a versatile and talented forward who joined Newport County on a two-year contract ahead of the 2024-25 season. Born on 2 November 1999 in Sheffield, Greaves began his footballing journey with Sheffield United, progressing through their academy ranks to sign a professional deal in 2018.
Greaves gained experience with a loan spell at Barrow during the 2019-20 season but found it difficult to adjust to the demands of first-team football at that time. After his release from Sheffield United in 2020, he embarked on a journey through various clubs, including spells with Dover Athletic, Buxton, and a stint in Spain with CD Almuñécar City, where he honed his skills and rebuilt his career.
His breakthrough came during the 2023-24 season with Mickleover FC in the Southern League Northern Premier Division, where Greaves enjoyed a prolific season, scoring 24 goals in 48 appearances. His performances caught the attention of several professional clubs, ultimately leading him to Newport County.
A forward known for his intelligent movement, clinical finishing, and ability to create opportunities for his teammates, Greaves made an immediate impact for Newport. He scored on his debut in the opening game of the 2024-25 season, finding the net in a 3-2 League Two clash against Cheltenham Town.
With his strong work ethic and eye for goal, Oliver Greaves is expected to be a key figure in Newport County’s attacking setup as they compete in the EFL League Two.
