McLoughlin's football career began in Ireland at St. Brendan's Park, before making the move to Ipswich Town in July 2013, where he signed a two-year scholarship. Progressing through the Ipswich academy, he signed his first professional contract in 2016 and made his senior debut in a 2-1 EFL Cup match against Crystal Palace in August 2017. During his time at Ipswich, McLoughlin gained experience on loan at Bromley, where he made several appearances in the National League.
In January 2019, McLoughlin signed for AFC Wimbledon, where he became a regular feature in the squad and scored his first senior goal in a 2-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers in March 2019.
