Josh Martin, born on 9 September 2001, is an English winger who joined Newport County in January 2025 on a short-term deal until the end of the 2024-25 season, with the option to extend. Martin arrives at Newport following a career spent at some of England’s most competitive clubs, including Norwich City, Milton Keynes Dons, Doncaster Rovers, Barnsley, and most recently, Notts County.
Martin began his football journey at Arsenal’s academy, before joining Norwich City in 2019 after a successful trial. He made his Premier League debut for Norwich in June 2020 and quickly made his mark by scoring his first professional goal in December of that same year in a 2-1 win against Sheffield Wednesday.
After a loan spell at Milton Keynes Dons in 2021 and another at Doncaster Rovers, Martin joined Barnsley on loan in August 2022, where he continued to showcase his abilities in League One. In November 2023, he signed a short-term deal with Portsmouth but departed at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Following a spell at Notts County, Martin made the move to Newport County, bringing his experience and versatility to the Exiles' attack. He made his debut for Newport in a 2-1 defeat to Swindon Town in January 2025 and is set to add pace, creativity, and depth to Newport’s forward options as the team looks to push for success in League Two.
Martin, who was born in Luton and is of English, Irish, and Jamaican heritage, has developed into a dynamic winger with a wealth of experience at a variety of levels in English football. His technical ability, pace, and work rate make him an exciting addition to Newport County’s squad as they look to achieve their goals for the remainder of the season.
