Player Biography

Hamzad Kargbo is a powerful and imposing striker who joined Newport County in June 2024 following a successful trial. Standing at 6ft 4in, the 22-year-old brings a physical presence to the Exiles' attack as they compete in the 2024-25 League Two season. Born on 20th January 2002, Kargbo began his footballing journey at Queens Park Rangers, where he progressed through the academy ranks after joining at the age of 12 from the Mass Elite Academy.

During his time at QPR, Kargbo became a regular feature for the club’s Under-23 squad and signed a professional contract. To gain first-team experience, he had loan spells in the National League with Southend United and Oxford City. These stints helped him develop his game in senior football, where his strength and aerial ability became notable assets.

After being released by QPR following the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, Kargbo joined Newport County on trial during the summer of 2024, impressing in pre-season matches against Pontypridd United, Kidderminster Harriers, Bristol Rovers, and Hereford FC. His performances earned him a professional contract, making him Newport’s 13th signing of the summer.

Kargbo made his competitive debut for Newport on 10th August 2024 in a League Two match against Cheltenham Town, though his debut was cut short by a dislocated shoulder that required surgery, ruling him out for approximately three months. Despite this setback, Kargbo is expected to play a key role in Newport’s attack upon his return to full fitness, offering a combination of physicality, work rate, and aerial dominance.

As he embarks on this new chapter with Newport County, Kargbo’s determination and ability to lead the line make him a valuable addition to the squad.
