Newport County exited the FA Cup after a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon.
Early goals from Anthony Glennon and Kai Whitmore saw County 2-0 up inside ten minutes, before the visitors put together a comeback to advance to the next round.
Nelson Jardim made three changes to his side that drew against Fleetwood last weekend with Kai Whitmore, Kieron Evans and Courtney Baker-Richardson coming into the starting eleven.
There were also returns from Shane McLoughlin and Joe Thomas who both made the Exiles bench following injury.
A thunderous start to the game saw the Exiles race into an early lead. Anthony Glennon was brought down on the edge of the Posh penalty box in the sixth minute before expertly curling the free-kick past Nicholas Bilokapic.
County doubled their lead just seconds after the restart when Kai Whitmore caught Posh defender Emmanuel Fernandez on the ball before unleashing a right-footed effort into the bottom corner.
It took an acrobatic save by Nick Townsend to preserve the Exiles' lead on 20 minutes, when Ryan De-Havilland found room to shoot on the edge of the box. His effort was met in the top corner by the County 'keeper.
After an extended spell of Peterborough possession, the visitors would finally break through the County defence. A weaving run by Kwame Poku in the 30th minute was tapped in at the back post by Abraham Odoh to halve the County lead.
Poku broke free once again just two minutes later with another dangerous run past the Exiles' defence, his near post drive was impressively saved by Townsend to keep County ahead.
Peterborough thought that they had found a leveller just before half-time. In a bizarre turn of events, an Odoh corner found its way into the back of the net, but the ball was adjudged to have entered the goal through the side netting by the referee, who cut Posh celebrations short.
Half-Time
County started the second half with a disallowed goal of their own; a Kyle Jameson effort ricocheted into the back of the net off of Courtney Baker-Richardson, but referee Stephen Martin adjudged it to have gone in via the arm of Baker-Richardson.
Peterborough found an equaliser on 70 minutes when Joel Randall found space in the County box to finish into the top corner.
After a quiet 20 minutes, Peterborough edged themselves in front when a deflected Donny O'Brien-Brady shot found the feet of Ricky-Jade Jones inside the six-yard box, who finished at the near post.
As County pushed for an equaliser, Jade-Jones added a fourth for the visitors in second half stoppage time from inside the box, finishing under Townsend.
