Newport County is pleased to announce the signing of highly-rated attacker Oliver Greaves on a two-year contract, subject to international clearance and EFL approval.
Greaves, 24, began his professional career at Sheffield United as a youngster, progressing through the club’s age-grades before suffering a career changing injury and departing the club aged 20.
Following his release from the Blades in 2020, a stay that included a loan spell at League Two Barrow, the attacking midfielder had to drop out of professional football to restart his career with spells at Dover Athletic and Buxton in the National League, plus Spanish club CD Almuñécar City.
Interest in Greaves grew from a number of professional clubs last season after he scored 24 goals in 48 appearances for Mickleover FC in the Southern League Northern Premier Division.
But it was Newport who moved first.
“There was quite a bit of interest from a number of professional clubs last season,’’ said Greaves upon signing the deal.
“But as soon as I heard about the Newport interest, I couldn’t wait to get it over the line. I’m buzzing.
“I’ve heard nothing but good things about the fans and the club, and I just can’t wait to play in front of them.”
Welcome to the Exiles, Oliver!
