Newport County made a special Christmas visit to Grange University Hospital this week, meeting with patients and their families and sprinkling a little festive magic.
Exiles head coach Nelson Jardim made the visit to the children’s ward, alongside his players and backroom staff, visiting wards and taking part in a very special meet and greet.
After training, they travelled to the hospital in Cwmbran and spent time with patients and their families, hearing more about their stories, posing for photographs and handing out club gifts and treats to celebrate all things Christmas.
They also met with University hospital staff, taking photographs and signing autographs to thank them for the amazing work they do throughout each year.
“For us to be here and to make these kids smile is such a good thing to do. I know this visit would have been a lovely surprise for them,” said Jardim.
“Grange University is a fantastic hospital with incredible people working here. It's a special place where everyone, hopefully, gets better. The dedication and care the staff show, especially towards the children, is truly inspiring. What they do is amazing, and I have so much respect for them.
"Creating special memories is so important, particularly at this time of year. Spending Christmas in hospital can be incredibly difficult for many of children, young people, and their families. So, for them having the opportunity to meet the squad this week, I hope, has brought a lot of happiness and plenty of big smiles."
Grange University Hospital Play Specialist, Beverly Trinder added: “A huge thank you to all the players, management, and support staff from Newport County who visited The Grange this week.
“The smiles on the faces of the patients and their families were priceless as the team spread some much-needed Christmas joy with gifts, photos, and autographs.
“We are incredibly grateful for the time, effort, and kindness shown by everyone involved. It truly made a difference and brought festive cheer to all.”
