Newport County complete signing of Josh Martin

Josh Martin

Newport County are delighted to announce the signing of versatile attacker Josh Martin, subject to international clearance.

The 23-year-old, a former Arsenal and Norwich City academy product, has put pen to paper on a six-month deal with a further option.

His arrival provides a significant boost to manager Nelson Jardim’s attacking options as the Exiles look to strengthen their squad for the challenges ahead.

Martin joins Newport from League Two counterparts Notts County, following a recent spell with the Magpies. He brings with him a wealth of experience at various levels of English football.

Having made five Premier League appearances for Norwich City as a teenager during the 2019–20 season, Martin quickly caught the eye with his potential at the top level.

In the following season, he played a key role in Norwich’s Sky Bet Championship title-winning campaign, helping the Canaries secure promotion to the Premier League.

Martin also enjoyed loan spells at MK Dons, Doncaster Rovers, and Barnsley, where he gained invaluable first-team experience.

More recently, Martin was part of Portsmouth’s successful League One promotion-winning squad last season, before moving to Notts County on a permanent deal in September.

Known for his adaptability, Martin is expected to provide valuable depth and competition in the final third, offering more options for Jardim as the team looks to push forward in the season.

Speaking after putting pen to paper, Martin said: “I’m really excited to join the club. For me, a big part of it was speaking to the manager.

“I’m really looking forward to getting out there, playing with the lads, and starting to put in some good performances.”
