Nelson Jardim | We’ve got to match their effort and commitment

Head coach Nelson Jardim says his side must match the intensity and work-rate of a rejuvenated MK Dons outfit when they travel to Stadium MK on Friday afternoon (3pm).

The Exiles head to north Buckinghamshire eager to bounce back from the frustration of last weekend's 2-0 home defeat to Colchester United, where they conceded two late goals.

MK Dons, meanwhile, will be looking to kickstart a late-season push under newly-appointed manager Paul Warne, who took charge on Wednesday evening.

With fresh leadership in the dugout, Jardim is expecting a spirited performance from the hosts.

“Friday is another key game for us in the run-in — but so were the last few, and we’ve let points slip,” he said.

“It’s been a tough week after the Colchester game, but the atmosphere in the camp remains positive. Everyone’s focused on getting back to winning ways and getting the job done.

“We expect a reaction from them. Preparations haven’t changed much from our usual routine, as we always try to focus on ourselves.

"But we know they’ll be up for it and we expect a tough game. A new manager brings energy — and they’ll be eager to show what they can do.

“We’ve studied their squad, how they’ve been playing, and how they like to set up. But for us, we’ve got to match their effort and commitment on the day.

“Last season ended in disappointment with us losing the last eight games. We’ve spoken about not letting that happen again.

“It’s down to the players to step up and take responsibility. We’ve got four games remaining of the campaign, and we’ve got to try and finish as strong as possible.”

Shane McLoughlin missed last weekend’s clash with Colchester United after picking up an ankle injury during the warm-up, while defender Anthony Glennon was withdrawn late in the game with a suspected hamstring issue.

There was better news for County as striker Kyle Hudlin made a brief return to action and is once again in contention for the trip to MK.

“Hudlin getting a few minutes under his belt last weekend was a big positive for us,” he said.

“Unfortunately, Macca rolled his ankle in the warm-up, which was disappointing. Thankfully, it’s not too serious — he’s taken part in parts of training and we’ll reassess him ahead of Friday. Hopefully, he’ll be available.

“As for Glenno, the scan on his hamstring came back clear, which is encouraging. It looks like it’s just down to fatigue and the volume of games he’s played. We’ll continue to monitor him closely before making a decision.”
