Nelson Jardim | We’ll take this defeat as a learning curve

JARDIM

Head coach Nelson Jardim was left feeling disappointed after his side fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Harrogate Town on Saturday afternoon.

A first-half strike from Toby Sims was enough to clinch all three points for the home side.

"It's a disappointing result, but the improvements you could see straight away, we got back on Monday and we kept going,” said Jardim post-match.

"I think we showed that we were in control for most of the time and I guess it's disappointing to not have at least a point from what we could do in this game.

"It's about the team feeling comfortable and I think we could see today the boys playing well and creating, not too many goal scoring chances, but that happened at both ends and one little detail decided the game.

“Jacob’s got my full support and the support of the whole squad. It's a strong dressing room and we are all supportive.

“This is part of the process as a young team and for him as a young goalkeeper. He has had a taste of this level and he works hard every day, so we expect the best for him.

"He has the support of everyone, he is a good keeper and our job is to make sure he improves, feels confident and comfortable. He pulled off a great save at the end too.

“We’ll take this defeat as a learning curve and look to get better.”

Addressing the Exiles’ run of defeats on the road, he added: “I think when you look at the youth of the team, that is a factor, but you can only focus on the performance side of things.

“We’ll keep working hard and I’m sure results will come. I thought a draw was a fair result but football isn’t always like that sometimes."
